Incorporated in 1819, Montgomery was
named for General Richard Montgomery, Hero of the American Revolution.
General Montgomery Captured Montreal 1775 he tried to capture the
Canadian city of Quebec. Dr. Martin L. King Jr. gained national
attention for civil rights issues while he was pastor of the Dexter
Avenue Baptist Church, two blocks from the State Capitol Building.
Music legend Hank Williams lived part of his life in Montgomery
and is buried here.
